Chalton Lower School Travel Plan
At Chalton Lower School we encourage all of our pupils to travel to school in a healthy and sustainable way. We hope to encourage well informed and life-long habits. We are working alongside Central Bedfordshire Council Sustainable Transport Team to develop and monitor our school Travel Plan.
Travel Plans are designed to help to promote sustainable travel and improve levels of safety and health and fitness through reducing traffic and congestion.
Our Travel Plan aims to:
- Try to reduce the number of cars parked on the grass verges outside of the school at the beginning and end of the school day.
- Try to reduce the number of cars parked on surrounding roads at the beginning and end of the school day.
- Encourage car sharing.
- Promote park and stride – parking at The Star Pub and walking or scooting the rest of the way to school.
- Set up a Travel Plan working group.
We also promote exciting initiatives for the children such as assemblies, Bikeability, Walk to School Week and road safety awareness sessions to help them to learn about the benefits of active, sustainable transport, keeping healthy and road safety.
