Governors
Our Governing Body
Our Governing Body play an essential part in raising standards within school. They have a strategic focus, operating and making decisions as a group. They have four very important roles to play:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction – they are involved in setting the aims and objectives for the school and ensuring the policies and procedures are in place in order to achieve them.
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school – making sure the money is well spent.
- Ensuring accountability – they monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making against it’s objectives.
- Acting as a critical friend – they provide support and challenge to the head teacher and teaching staff.
Our Governing Body meet all together every half term. Minutes from these full governing board meetings are available upon request from the school office.

James Noel – Co-opted Governor
I joined the Governing Board at Chalton Lower School this January after being involved for a few years as a volunteer Rugby Coach. I chose to become a governor as I think Chalton is a fantastic school with wonderful staff, and I wanted to offer my support so they can continue providing excellent learning opportunities for the children.
I have one child at Chalton, with another who left a few years ago and most of the children know me due to coaching in their PE lessons. Professionally I’m a Commercial Marketing Director, but I’ve also served as Chairman of Dunstablians Rugby Club and a governor in another lower school – so I hope the variety of skills I’ve gathered over the years will be useful to the school.
I looked forward to working with my fellow governors to serve the staff and children in the best way possible.
Andrew Jones – Co-opted Governor
I joined the Governing board as I have a child at the school & live locally in the village. Growing up I attended a small village school and recognise the unique challenges & opportunities presented to the children, staff and parents alike. My experience extends to a commercial background in Sales & Marketing in a leadership capacity & I was previously a Governor at a school in Dunstable. I have a passion for Sport & exercise and keen to support the School in any way that I can. Please feel free to say ‘hi’ whenever you see me on the school run. Very much looking forward to working with the staff & my fellow Governors for the benefit of the school.
